THE TOP EPL'S LAME EXCUSES OF THE WEEK

ARSENAL CRASH AT CITY
Hughes blasts at Wenger after City cruise
"Im good in making excuses..don't you agree..?"
Arsene Wenger's miserable week continued as he found himself branded as "ungracious" by Mark Hughes after Manchester City's comfortable 3-0 home victory over Arsenal.
Gunners boss Wenger, who stripped William Gallas of the captaincy at Eastlands, claimed the scoreline "flattered" City and Hughes told the BBC: "Maybe he is being a little bit ungracious because I remember Robinho going around (Manuel) Almunia to make it even more emphatic.
"We had another couple of good opportunities, so I do not think the scoreline flattered us at all. We created six or seven chances."
Gallas did not travel with the squad after making critical remarks about the team in midweek when he questioned their fighting spirit but Wenger stated the French defender still had a future at the club he refused to discuss the reasons behind his absence.

"I will not speak about William Gallas in a post-match interview, " said Wenger. He is a player who did not play today, so what can he do? Nothing.

"Why should we not talk about (Cesc) Fabregas and the other nine players who are not here. We can go on until midnight and I will give the same answer to the same question."

Wenger refused to concede they are out of the title race even though they have seen Aston Villa move into fourth place.

He said: "We have to keep our belief. With a strong team in a strong club, you have sometimes to go through a period like this. It is how well you deal with that situation you determine your future.

Obama outlines job-creation plan

(CNN) -- President-elect Barack Obama offered an outline of his economic recovery plan Saturday, and jobs were the top priority.

American workers will rebuild the nation's roads and bridges, modernize its schools and create more sources of alternative energy, creating 2.5 million jobs by 2011, Obama said in the weekly Democratic address, posted on his Web site.

"These aren't just steps to pull ourselves out of this immediate crisis," he said. "These are the long-term investments in our economic future that have been ignored for far too long."

Details of the plan are still being worked out by his economic team, Obama said, but he hopes to implement the plan shortly after taking office January 20.

He referred to figures out this week showing that new home purchases in October were the lowest in 50 years and that 540,000 new unemployment claims had been filed, the most in 16 years.

iReport.com: How are you making yourself layoff-proof?

"We must do more to put people back to work and get our economy moving again," he said. More than a million jobs have been lost this year, he said, and "if we don't act swiftly and boldly, most experts now believe that we could lose millions of jobs next year."

The plan will be aimed at jump-starting job creation, Obama said, and laying the foundation for a stronger economy.

Edwin credits Villa

Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar praised Aston Villa for the way they "made life difficult" for United in the goalless draw at Villa Park.

Martin O'Neil's side stuck to a largely defensive gameplan to frustrate the champions and claim the point which moves them above Arsenal into fourth in the table.
Van der Sar said: "We were playing Aston Villa and although all the papers were talking about our unbeaten record there, it's still a hard place to go to.
"Villa are doing very well this year and they proved that they have the quality to play football and make life difficult. "They played well but we were strong at the back.
We made one or two blocks and I made a couple of saves. In the last 10 minutes we hoped they would get a little tired and we could push on and score a winner."We tried our best and had a couple of chances but not enough to get the win."
Van der Sar knows United have so far had a difficult fixture list to contend with and is confident of clawing back an eight-point deficit on Liverpool and Chelsea in the second half of the campaign."We've had some tough away fixtures but we have to play everyone at some point," the Dutchman added.
"We just have to make sure we stay at this distance or a little closer and then hopefully at the turn of the year we can push on."

HAHAHAHAHA!!

REDS FRUSTRATED BY FULHAM

Liverpool remain level on points with Chelsea at the top of the Barclays Premier League despite being held to a goalless draw with Fulham at Anfield.

The Reds dominated throughout a lively contest but missed the chance to move clear of Luiz Felipe Scolari's men after failing to find that elusive match winning goal.

It was all the more frustrating for Rafa and co after the Londoners drew a blank at home to Newcastle United.

The first chance of what proved to be hugely frustrating match for Liverpool fell to the hosts on four minutes when a magnificent 40 yard ball from Fabio Aurelio found the marauding Alvaro Arbeloa down the right. The Spaniard showed good awareness to cut the ball back for Dirk Kuyt on the edge of the box but for once the Dutchman couldn ?t finish and dragged his shot wide of the far post.

It set the tone for the rest of the half with the home side wasting a series of good openings while Fulham threatened on the counter attack.

Roy Hodgson ?s men had not won at Anfield in 27 previous visits prior to kick-off, and although that run has now stretched to 28 matches, they could have given themselves a fighting chance of a shock victory on 20 minutes when they carved Liverpool open.

The Reds failed to clear a right-wing free-kick and after Jimmy Bullard and Clint Dempsey had combined to set up Andy Johnson, the former Everton man fired a gilt-edged opportunity straight at Pepe Reina.

It was proving to be an entertaining encounter and although Fulham had their moments, the hosts should have gone in at the interval ahead.

The chance of the half fell to Robbie Keane, who really should have done better after racing on to a flick from Lucas and smashing a shot straight at Mark Schwarzer from just eight yards out.

The returning Fernando Torres ? who was making his first league start since the clash at Manchester City on October 5 ? then went close with two instinctive efforts before the Cottagers again showed how dangerous they could be on the break when Bullard forced a top drawer save from Reina after Zamora ?s rampaging run down the right had left the Liverpool defence exposed.

The underlying feeling reverberating around Anfield at the halfway point was one of frustration and the home side set about putting that right with a fast start to the second period.

Torres was beginning to have more and more influence on the play and created two good openings in the first five minutes of the half.

First he saw a delightful effort curl just over the top after some good play by Keane, before a brilliant individual run saw him cut in from the left and sting the fingertips of Schwarzer with a sizzling strike.

The Reds were turning the screw and the Fulham stopper had to be at his instinctive best again on 70 minutes when he pushed Dirk Kuyt ?s effort away after a volleyed cross from Albert Riera

It looked like being one of those days for Rafa and co, and after Lucas and Daniel Agger both went close late on, it would prove to be the case, as Fulham held on to claim a surprise point.

Review: 'Twilight' needs more flash

Stephenie Meyer's novel has been flying off the shelves, the soundtrack's topping the charts, and Robert Pattinson -- a 23-year-old Brit whose only previous claim to fame was playing Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter movies -- has been anointed the hottest pinup since the Jonas brothers.
All of which is very good news for Summit Entertainment, the independent outfit that backed the movie at the relatively modest budget of $30 million.
Will the book's fans mind that the effects are decidedly low-tech, that there are no famous faces and that the whole show hasn't been transplanted to glossy Los Angeles? I doubt it.
Director Catherine Hardwicke -- who made "Thirteen" and "The Lords of Dogtown" -- hasn't made a great film or even a very good one, but she has stayed true to more than the letter of the novel. She obviously got it, and the movie gets it too.
Got what, you say? Well, that "Twilight" isn't about special effects or horror, for a start. It's a Gothic romance reconceived for 21st-century teens. Bella Swan (played by Kristen Stewart) is the new girl in Forks, Washington, where she's moved in with her dad. Forks may not be Wuthering Heights, but it's wild, and it's wet, and her lab partner in biology class has a Heathcliff-Darcy-Rochester thing going for him. When she sits down beside Edward, he looks like he wants to throw up.
Pattinson is enjoying the lion's share of the spotlight, and it's not hard to see why. Hardwicke shoots him like a sex god, in enraptured slo-mo and lingering close-ups. (It's how Michael Bay shot Megan Fox in "Transformers": gaga.)

I'M A BIG FAN OF C.RONALDO

Wanna be like him..

You're the best!

And he's soooo rugged yo'..!

Boss backs Villa breakthrough

Sir Alex Ferguson says United will be up against an Aston Villa side on Saturday more than capable of breaking into the top four.Martin O’Neill’s men currently lie fifth in the table, just a point behind the Reds thanks to their 2-0 victory at Arsenal last weekend.Sir Alex was hugely impressed by their display at the Emirates and believes they have a good chance of claiming one of this season's Champions League spots if they keep up their good form. “I think they can break into the top four,” he told reporters at his pre-match press conference. “Villa are an improving side and I thought their performance at Arsenal was outstanding."I think Martin has done a fantastic job there. He is without question one of the best managers in the game. The only way you can judge managers is by looking at how they’ve proved themselves over a period and he’s done that at Leicester, Celtic and now Villa.“He keeps a consistent team selection – I’ve always noticed that about his sides, he doesn’t make many changes. So it’ll be a tough challenge on Saturday, but our record is fantastic at Villa Park and hopefully it remains that way.”The Reds will be buoyed by the fact they have not lost a league game at Villa Park since August 1995 and have enjoyed unbridled success down the years in FA Cup semi-finals at the stadium.“Villa Park just seems to be a ground that suits us,” said Sir Alex. “I couldn’t tell you why, but we always play well
